Every commentary series has its own strengths and its own target audience. Some series are geared towards academics, some are geared towards preachers, and some are geared towards laypeople who are reading the Bible for devotional purposes. Some academic commentaries emphasize theological concepts, or early Christian interpretations of Scripture, or the reception history of the biblical text.
There are two commentary series that are particularly good for studying the original language of the biblical text. Both of these series begin from the author's own original translation and typically include substantive discussion of interpretive issues related to the language of the text.
